My Story

In 1957, Judy Szabados arrived in Australia as a 16 year old Hungarian refugee. She was adopted by a kind Australian family and completed her secondary schooling at Siena Convent.
Judy, who had converted to Catholicism before leaving Hungary, became a Dominican Sister. After 5 years, on the expiry of her vows she left the Convent.
Judy completed her studies doing a science degree at the University of Melbourne, married, had three children and taught in several schools around Melbourne for 25 years.  At the age of fifty she changed direction and became a full time artist, had more than fifteen solo exhibitions. Her works are based on her love of music, science and spirituality. Her paintings are in the Catholic churches at Kinglake, Diamond Creek, Greensborough North and Greensborough as well as at YTU and many private collections.

‘I kept the Dominican   motto, “To contemplate and to give to others the fruits of contemplation” my own for the rest of my life.’
